Steps to Website Planning
|
|
| Planning Stage |
|
- Define the purpose, goals and objectives of your site
- Prepare your marketing and promotion plan
- Secure domain name
- Do your homework. Research your competition, and identify businesses and strategies that you can use as models.
- Assemble your tem. Your tem will probably include:
- Someone who knows and understands your industry, products and target market,
- Someone who knows Internet business tools and techniques such as an Internet business consultant,
- A copywriter,
- Graphics Person,
- Programmer who knows HTML to code your site. With all the new tools out on the market that are readily available for website development, I have found that basic editors such as Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia's Dreamweaver are sufficiently user friendly and can allow for regular site maintenance without having to hire a computer guru who knows more sophisticated programs.
- Web master, the person who will manage your site.
|
| Production Stage |
|
- Design the site with your team
- Construct your site
- Prototype and thoroughly test your site. Get as much feedback as possible before launching it on the internet
|
| Promotion Stage |
|
- Launch site. Announce, promote, and advertise your site to generate traffic.
- Get as much feedback as possible and update your site regularly. Websites are not static. The medium and the audience demand that they be dynamic. Websites should constantly evolve and provide new information
|
| Regular Maintenance Inhouse or Outsource? |
|
Can it be handled inhouse?
In considering inhouse maintenance of your website consider whether or not you have anideal candidate and key person who can be in charge of your site. The ideal candidate should be someone who is very technically oriented, and wishes to take the time to learn basic HTML programming, some graphic layout and design. The person should have a sufficient amount of technical background to be able to handle much of the work. He/she should be aware of the available web development tools on the market and skills required for website development in order to make informed decisions.
